United States Green Card
A United States Green Card is also officially known as Permanent Resident Card. It is a document provided by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that assigns permanent resident status to its holders. Green card holders can live and work in the U.S freely because they have legal proof of residency in the form of this card. Holder of this card also enjoys various job opportunities. One can easily shift their job from one to another without any concerns regarding residence status. Holder of this card can apply for citizenship too.
Green card holders can bring their immediate family members to the U.S. The family members include spouse and children under 21 years of age. However in certain cases children of any age can be sponsored. Spouse can also do the job wherever they want and children can get education in public sector colleges and universities for a low tuition fee. One benefit among many others include applying for a Federal financial aid program. Under this program Green Card holders can get loans for education. Similarly social security and medical facilities of the government are also given to the holders of this card.

Applicants under different categories of visas get United States Green Card. There are different classifications of categories that make the decision easy for applicants.
Employment Based Immigration
Employment based (EB) immigration category is further subdivided into five sub categories:
- EB-1 is for professors and researchers which have done extraordinary work in their respective fields.
- EB-2 is for individuals with high qualifications and advanced degrees. They get a visa under the category of National Interest Waiver.
- EB-3 is for workers, both skilled and non skilled.
- EB-4 is for Special immigrants that is foreign medical graduation degree holders, employees of international organizations, past employees of the U.S. government and religious workers.
- EB-5 is for persons that make investments of a certain amount in the U.S.
Family Based Immigration
There are further sub categories under family based immigration category:
- F1 is for unmarried adult children of citizens of the U.S.
- F2 that includes F2A and F2B. F2A is for spouses and children of Green Card holders of the U.S. F2B is for unmarried adult children of Green Card holders of the U.S.
- F3 is for married children of the U.S. citizens.
- F4 is for siblings of U.S. citizens.
3. Diversity Visa Lottery for United States Green Card
Individuals from countries having low rates of U.S. immigration can get a certain number of Green Cards under this program. Such individuals should fulfill certain educational background requirements and also the work experience.
4. Refugees and Asylum Seekers
Persons who got refugee status can apply for Permanent Residency after one year. After fulfilling a certain eligibility standard, such individuals can file Form I- 485.
5. Special Programs
This category includes the people who have been subjected to human trafficking (T-visa holders). Another group of people are those people who are victims of other crimes and they already have U-visa including victims of domestic abuse. One group included is of such children who are subjected to abuse, neglect or are abandoned by their caregivers.
6. Registry
The people who have been living in the United States since before January 01, 1972 are included in this category.
Hence, the U.S. Green Card provides various opportunities to its holders including job security, immigration pathways and also prime facilities, making it an attractive option for foreigners.
